Here you’ll find frequently asked questions from our clients, along with answers to help you make an informed decision about your hair transformation.
How long does my hair need to be for extensions?
For tape-in or nano-bead extensions to blend seamlessly, your hair should be approximately chin length all over to achieve the most natural results.
Do I need a consultation before getting extensions?
Yes! Please book a consultation first, as we don’t offer same-day installations. If you’re unsure which extension method is best, you can select one when booking. During your consultation, we’ll assess your hair and recommend the most suitable option, and then schedule a separate appointment for the installation.
What if I live out of town?
We’re able to do your consultation and installation on the same day. Please email photos of your hair in natural light to info@glamfairyhair.ca. The final cost will be confirmed during your appointment.
Do you offer colouring services?
We do not offer hair colouring services.
Can you install hair extensions for thinning hair on the crown?
If your crown area is thinning, traditional hair extensions won’t provide the coverage you need. A hair topper is the best option for achieving a fuller, natural look.
Do you sell hair toppers?
We don’t sell toppers at this time. We currently provide tape-in, nano-bead, and clip-in extensions, as well as a range of hair treatments.
Are clip-in extensions suitable for someone with thinning in the crown area?
Clip-in extensions are not recommended for someone with a thinning crown. Here’s why:
They need hair density to hide the clips. If the crown area is thin, the clips can show through or look bulky.
They can add extra tension. Clipping onto fragile hair may cause additional stress or breakage.
They won’t create coverage at the top. Clip-ins add length and volume on the sides and back, but they don’t fill in thin areas at the crown.
If you plan to colour or tone your hair, please do so before your consultation. Allow about a week for the colour to settle or fade slightly for a more accurate match. We will do our best to match your hair, even if you have highlights.
Yes. Once an appointment is confirmed, we do not offer refunds. If you need to reschedule, please contact us as soon as possible, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
Please wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo right before your appointment, and arrive with no styling products or conditioner in your hair for all reinstallation and installation services.
A clarifying shampoo is not a regular shampoo. It's a stronger, deep-cleaning shampoo made specifically to remove buildup. Regular shampoos clean surface-level dirt; clarifying shampoos “reset” the hair.
No. Tape-in & Nano Bead Hair Extensions are the beauty industry's leading form of non-damaging hair extensions. They are unbelievably realistic and provide a natural, undetectable transformation for fuller, voluminous hair. Specifically designed for fine and/or thin hair, they are 100% natural, require no glue or chemicals, and last up to 10 weeks. The hair is reusable for up to 2 years or more with proper care.
The texture of hair extensions largely depends on the natural hair of the donor. Since our extensions are sourced ethically from single donors, each pack reflects the donor's unique hair texture. This ensures a more natural appearance and flow. Here’s how donor hair influences texture:
Straight Hair – Naturally smooth and sleek, collected from donors whose hair is naturally straight.
Wavy Hair – Soft, effortless waves that come from donors with naturally textured or beach-wave patterns.
Our hair extensions are crafted to blend effortlessly with most hair types. However, they will not match tighter curl patterns such as 3A, 3B, 3C, 4A, 4B, or 4C textures.
Yes! Losing a few strands is completely normal. Here are the main reasons:
1. Root Conditioning
Conditioning is essential for healthy hair, but when you have extensions, apply conditioner from the mid-shaft down, avoiding the roots. Rinsing upside down can cause the extensions to slip.
2. Product Buildup
With tape-in or nano-bead extensions, avoid applying excessive product to your roots. Products containing alcohol or oil should be skipped.
3. Naturally Oily Hair or Scalp
If your scalp tends to be oily, it’s important to double-wash and scrub thoroughly to keep the roots clean.
4. Weekly Clarifying
To remove buildup and keep your hair and scalp fresh, we recommend using a clarifying shampoo once a week.
Following these tips helps maintain the health of your extensions and your natural hair, keeping them looking their best.
Yes!
You can put your hair up, but very high, tight ponytails may reveal the tapes or nano-beads if your hair is fine.
Mid- or low ponytails, half-ups, buns, and braids work beautifully.
Keep tension gentle. Avoid super-tight ponytails.
Use a soft hair tie or scrunchie.
Brush gently and support the roots as you detangle.
Can very high ponytails cause traction alopecia?
Yes. Regularly wearing very high or very tight ponytails can contribute to traction alopecia, a form of hair loss caused by constant pulling on hair follicles. This tension weakens the roots over time and can lead to breakage, thinning, or permanent hair loss if not addressed.
Why high, tight ponytails can be risky
They pull the hair upward from the scalp at a sharp angle.
The tension is strongest around the hairline, where hair is most delicate.
Repeated stress can inflame the follicles and cause shedding.
How to prevent traction alopecia
Avoid tight or overly high ponytails, especially daily.
Switch to loose styles or lower ponytails.
Use soft scrunchies instead of tight elastics.
At Glam Fairy Hair, we ensure safe, professional application and care for all hair extensions performed in our salon. We are not responsible for any damage, breakage, or hair issues resulting from services, maintenance, or removal done outside of our salon.
Yes! Extensions should be treated just like your natural hair. You can use heat styling tools, but always apply a heat protectant. Gentle brushing, washing with sulfate-free products, and avoiding sleeping with wet hair will help your extensions last longer and stay healthy.

Swimming:
Chlorine is not hair-friendly. If entering the pool or ocean, apply leave-in conditioner mid to ends. It is recommended to wear your hair up or in a ponytail when you swim.
Exercise:
Please dry the tapes after exercising. Hair must be completely dry to avoid tangling at the root.
Vacation:
Our extensions travel beautifully! Just be cautious with sunscreen. Certain ingredients can cause a chemical reaction that may discolour bleached hair extensions.
Are darker, non-bleached shades safe from sunscreen discoloration?
Yes. Darker, non-bleached shades are generally safe and do not react with sunscreen the way lighter or bleached shades can.
Yes. Our salon windows are completely covered for extra privacy.
No. While they offer instant results, there are potential risks involved. Learn why our salon prioritizes your hair's long-term health and explores safer, gentler alternatives.
Understanding the Risks of UV Hair Extensions: Damage and Drawbacks
Potential Issues with UV Hair Extensions:
Bonding Process: The application uses a nail glue-like adhesive that cures under UV light. This adhesive can be harsh on the natural hair and scalp.
Odor: The adhesive often has a strong chemical smell that can be unpleasant for some people.
Damage Potential: The UV light exposure and the chemicals in the adhesive can cause dryness and breakage in your natural hair.
Maintenance: UV hair extensions have a shorter lifespan than other extension methods. UV tends to shed quickly meaning you’ll often need to replace the hair. Even with the best care, these extensions usually last around 6 weeks at most, so they aren’t a practical option for long-term wear.
Removal: The removal process can be harsh and may cause damage to your natural hair.
We love tape-in and nano-bead extensions because they are gentle on your natural hair. Our strands are 50% smaller than standard market extensions, which means less weight, less tension, and no damage to your hair. These methods provide a natural look, easy maintenance, and long-lasting results.
No because they are often too heavy, which can put excessive tension on the hair and increase the risk of traction alopecia (hair loss from pulling on the roots). They are also harder to wash thoroughly, which can allow bacteria to build up on the scalp. Our priority is the health and safety of your natural hair.
We do not install hair extensions on young children. Kids’ hair is typically finer and more delicate, and extensions can put too much tension on the scalp, increasing the risk of breakage or discomfort. We prioritize long-term hair health.
Semi-permanent methods (like tape-ins or nano-beads) are generally recommended starting around age 13–14, depending on hair strength and maturity.
With proper care, tape-in and nano-bead extensions last up to 10 weeks before a reinstall is needed, depending on your hair growth. Best of all, the extensions themselves last 2 years or more, meaning you won’t need to purchase new hair. Saving you money over time.
Yes, we offer removal and reinstallation of our tape-in and nano-bead hair extensions. For prices, visit the Extensions Prices page.
Not really! Tape-in and nano bead extensions are low-maintenance if you follow a few simple care steps: gentle brushing, using sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, avoiding sleeping with wet hair, and scheduling regular maintenance appointments. Treat them like your natural hair, and they’ll blend seamlessly and last up to 10 weeks between installs, with the hair itself lasting 2 years or longer.
Since our extensions are made from 100% human hair, you can tone or darken them, but bleaching is not recommended. You may colour your natural hair while the extensions are in. If bleaching is needed, please schedule a removal first, have your hair coloured with your hairdresser, and then reinstall your extensions. This will require two appointments, and we recommend booking bleach services close to your next extension maintenance.
After removing tape-in or nano-bead extensions, your hair may feel lighter or less full, since it’s no longer carrying the added length and weight of the extensions. This is completely normal. Your natural hair hasn’t actually thinned; it just feels different compared to the extensions.
Most people adjust within a few days to a week. Your hair may feel lighter or less full at first, but your scalp and natural hair quickly adapt. Good news: your natural hair is not damaged after removing extensions. The sensation of lightness or thinness is just a feeling. Your hair is healthy; it simply feels different compared to the added length and weight of the extensions.
We are not able to remove fusion hair extensions because the process can cause hair damage.
Also known as:
Keratin bond extensions
K-tip extensions
U-tip extensions
You’re welcome to have your fusion extensions removed elsewhere, and we’d be happy to have you come to us afterward for new extensions. We just want to make sure your natural hair stays healthy and protected.

Hair Botox, Nanoplastia, and 24k Gold protein treatment aim at improving the condition and appearance of the hair, but they have some key differences:
Hair Botox:
Hair Botox is primarily focused on restoring and rejuvenating damaged hair. It aims to repair hair fibers, replenish lost nutrients, and improve overall hair health and appearance.
Does hair botox affect natural curls?
Yes, hair botox can slightly relax your natural curl pattern, but it usually doesn’t completely straighten curly hair.
Nanoplastia & 24k Gold Protein Straightening Treatments:
Nanoplastia (straightens hair up to 80%) & 24k Gold Protein Straightening Treatment (straightens hair up to 100%). They are designed to smooth and straighten frizzy or curly hair while also providing some repair and nourishment.
Please avoid colouring your hair before your treatment, as the heat used in the process can affect your hair colour.
Wait Before Washing
Avoid washing your hair for 48–72 hours after the treatment.
Shampoos and conditioners with sulfates can strip the treatment.
Stick to gentle, sulfate-free products to prolong the effect.
Be Gentle
Avoid tight hairstyles or hair ties that pull on the hair.
Limit Washing
Wash your hair 2–3 times per week for optimal results.
Over-washing can shorten the treatment’s longevity.
Protect From Water Exposure
Chlorine and salt water can weaken the treatment.
Avoid Chemical Treatments
Postpone colouring your hair for at least 1 week after the treatment.
Maintain Smoothness
Our hair treatments last 4–6 months, depending on hair type and care.
Use leave-in conditioners or serums to keep hair soft and frizz-free.
